Clogland
I bought these 1970s clogs from etsy in the summer. I'd checked and rechecked the continental sizes against the UK ones. All seemed well and I took the plunge. They arrived and they were even more beautiful than in their picture. The handpainting was stunning and I couldn't wait to put them on (and to possibly do a small cloggy dance). You might be able to guess what happened - they were at least a size too small. There was some clog anguish. I considered reselling them but couldn't bear to part with them.
I've just hung them up on the wall. I think they might have become a Christmas decoration. Ahem. It's December right?
Their vibrant colours reminded me - this month's Splash of Colour week will begin next Monday, the 6th December. I'll be posting colourful images to help us through the winter. There are now 42 members of the Splash of Colour Flickr pool. It's a good place to visit if you want to take a look. I've made a new button for the project this month:
It would be wonderful if you could join in next week.
Oh dear - I'm ahead of myself as have already posted my December colour post! Those clogs took me back - I had a pair of red ones like that though mine were without the painting and I loved them till I fell off them one day and grazed my leg and knee badly on the gravelled driveway. The thick wooden soles are not always easy to handle!! I was much much younger then too so it wasn't just me being an old fogey. Much better as a decoration I'd say!

I'm glad you've found somewhere lovely to hang them!
ReplyDeleteI'll be honest though, I don't want a splash of colour today, I want a whoosh of white to go sledging on. By next week I may feel differently :-)
I shall fire up the rainbow machine for next week.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love the cloggy button, if not the clog size anguish...
ooops. I was a bit ahead of myself and posted a colour post today. Just assumed it would be the first week of Dec. Smashing clogs!
ReplyDeleteOh dear like Marigold I posted yesterday! But I've got more for next week. I had a pair of cloggs in the 70's too, not as fancy as yours or such a nice colour.
ReplyDeleteLove those clogs and I think they make a perfect Christmas decoration. Looking forward to Splash of Colour next week.
ReplyDeleteOoohhhh yes - very Christmassy, but such a shame they do not fit.

Awww what a pity they didn't fit, at least you have found a good use for them! :)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the colour posts next week, everything's a bit white at the moment!!

What a shame they don't fit - they're beautiful! Lx
ReplyDeleteHello Lovely!
ReplyDeleteThey are divine irrespective of size and a perfect decoration too, love that they a red!
Hooray heating temporarilly restored, thank heavens as we have a bout 40cm's of snow outside!!!!
eek! Love to you, stay warm,

Yes, I was a bit premature too - I must have really NEEDED that injection of colour! But no matter as I can just put more up next week as well.
ReplyDeleteI love those clogs - really love them. And if they have been promoted to Christmas decorations, then at least their lovely painted decorations will stay looking beautiful, and you won't have the trauma of getting them scratched!
Gorgeous clogs. I have a wee soft spot for clogs, I currently own 6 pairs and one odd one. It's a shame that they don't fit you but I bet they look great hung up.

Lovely clogs. I have a cheap wooden soled pair I wear in the garden, nothing as pretty as yours, but surprisingly really comfy!
ReplyDeleteWill post my splash of colour next week (thinking about it already).
SERIOUS clog envy going on here.................. sigh............... (pause to lick my screen).........sigh....
ReplyDeleteI hadn't planned to have a case of the Clog Wanties this evening, until I came across your post. Serious case of clog lust going on here, what a gorgeous pair! Of course Im sorry they don't fit you...do you think they would fit me (hee hee!!)
ReplyDeleteLove Julia x x x
Oh what a shame! They are gorgeous though and very pretty to look at.
ReplyDeleteDon't be such a woosie... cut your toes off, really what use are they anyway?! x
ReplyDeleteOops! I was afflicted with premature blogging too! Never mind!
ReplyDeleteLove the clogs - I've always wanted a pair too.
Love love love the clogs! My wool felt ones seem so boring now.

Personally I'm enjoying all the northern hemisphere WHITE photographs!
ReplyDeleteStunning clogs though. Pity about them being, you know, unwearable.
Oh, that's soooo sad Emma! (And no matter how much you love them, I hope you're not considering Jus's advice LOL!)
ReplyDeletepretty clogs! when I lived in Stockholm I used to wear them every day - so comfy
ReplyDeleteIn 1976 I had a pair of these clogs (without the painting. Beautiful red cloppies (there was no clippy sound, just clopping). I couldn't walk in them aged six but oh, how I loved them.
ReplyDeleteSmallerBean has just walked in and seen yours E. It's her first case of bloggy wanties!
Will try and join the colour malarkey properly this month.
Hope you're not too snowy, Ax
Love them! I think they're a great Christmas decoration but what a shame they don't fit.
ReplyDeleteThey're very gorgeous clogs and perfect for a christmassy decoration if they're not able to decorate your feet. Afterall they'll last longer this way and you'll get to enjoy them for many years to come without having to trouble yourself with something nasty stuck on the bottom of them!
ReplyDeleteI love your clogs and there's no way I could have sold them on, either!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a happy weekend,
Denise x
Love those clogs. I'm a clog wearer, but just normal ones from dansko. I just have solid colors, red being the boldest and a spring green being the brightest.....but love your handpainted clogs. What a beautiful way to decorate, I wouldn't have been able to part with them either! Have a wonderful weekend

The tragedy of shoes you love but are the wrong size! I have a pair of red sandals I adore, but they are too big and I feel like I have flippers on when I wear them.
ReplyDeleteBut I still love them.
Is it cheating for those of us in the Southern hemisphere to post a Splash of Colour? It's summer here now, so there would be no challenge for us, I guess. I shall just enjoy yours instead.
