One weekend, two celebrations

In 1201 King John granted a charter for a fair in our village. During the last week of April every year the fairground rides arrive on the village green ready for May Day. This year the helter skelter was built right outside our sitting room window. Excitement was at fever pitch.

Combine that with a Royal wedding garden party with free rides on Friday afternoon and it was almost too much.

We even had a Royal line up.

See if you can spot:

1) Our cottage (it's pink)
2) Me having a greedy moment on the far left.

  1. What on earth were you scarfing? I can see your house!

I thought of you at the fair this weekend as we were freezing our backsides off on the beach - was it windy here too? I seem to remember you having to hold down your gazebo last year ...

  2. GORGEOUS
Wasn't that just a perfect weekend? BigBean biked up to Reach the other day and was very excited about fair preparations.
Something about bunting and eating outside which makes such an occasion. And of course being graced by HRH makes it all the more so... Ax

  6. Nom nom nom Mrs P! Caught on camera :-D

I forgot all about your big Fair, we were walking in Wales.

Looks like Reach had a grand time - you wouldn't know a Royal Wedding had happened over in our village. I was even telephoned at 10.45am to discuss the design of the fete poster.

  7. Hahaha -- LOVE that greedy moment. And how fun to have such fun right out your front door (even if Prince Harry does look a little sinister!)

  8. What fun and it couldn't get any more exciting than having a helter skelter right outside your sitting room window. Lovely too that something that was started over 800 years ago is still taking place. With such a busy weekend for the Royals it was great that they could turn up at your fair. :)

  13. Love the last photo! There's one of me like that at our wedding, which I find really annoying...

This is just a great event. We ahve to wait until the end of August/beginning of September for our town fair, but you've whetted my appetite!

  16. It's nice to see that somewhere in England still actually celebrates May day, most people just think of it as a day off work . Gorgeous smiley face in the first pic .

  17. You are so lucky to have a fair in your front yard! What fun! Loved your photos.. who's the little darling in the first picture? Thanks for sharing with us... Teresa in Oregon USA

  18. There is a small child over here who is now LIVID that those rides and attractions were not parked outside HIS house. This might just permanently mar his friendship with the young lady in the first photo. And I had such hopes of being a co-mother-in-law with you...

(Papa S. and I are still chortling over your greedy moment. Do tell what the substance was.)

  20. What a super may day celebration - the fair looks lovely and old-fashioned, I love those wooden swing boats. I see you - adpoting the time honored pose of lady eating something drippable while wanting to keep her pretty skirt clean!

  21. I see you and that is too funny. I like your skirt. I love that in England even your fairs have such a history to them. So much cooler than setting up in a shopping mall parking lot.
