One weekend, two celebrations
In 1201 King John granted a charter for a fair in our village. During the last week of April every year the fairground rides arrive on the village green ready for May Day. This year the helter skelter was built right outside our sitting room window. Excitement was at fever pitch.
Combine that with a Royal wedding garden party with free rides on Friday afternoon and it was almost too much.
We even had a Royal line up.
See if you can spot:
1) Our cottage (it's pink)
2) Me having a greedy moment on the far left.
What on earth were you scarfing? I can see your house!
ReplyDeleteI thought of you at the fair this weekend as we were freezing our backsides off on the beach - was it windy here too? I seem to remember you having to hold down your gazebo last year ...
GORGEOUS
ReplyDeleteWasn't that just a perfect weekend? BigBean biked up to Reach the other day and was very excited about fair preparations.
Something about bunting and eating outside which makes such an occasion. And of course being graced by HRH makes it all the more so... Ax
Oooh looks like a great day out -there's just something about fairs which bring on a trememdous amount of excitement! and you didn't even have to drive home - even better! hehe x
ReplyDeleteTeresa, love your pictures, looks like so much fun. Can't find the cottage or you!!!!! I looked and looked but my picture would not zoom. Take care, xoRobin❤
ReplyDeleteEmma, oops!!! sorry I called you Teresa. But the post was for you! silly me, xoRobin❤
ReplyDeleteNom nom nom Mrs P! Caught on camera :-D
ReplyDeleteI forgot all about your big Fair, we were walking in Wales.
Looks like Reach had a grand time - you wouldn't know a Royal Wedding had happened over in our village. I was even telephoned at 10.45am to discuss the design of the fete poster.

Hahaha -- LOVE that greedy moment. And how fun to have such fun right out your front door (even if Prince Harry does look a little sinister!)
ReplyDeleteWhat fun and it couldn't get any more exciting than having a helter skelter right outside your sitting room window. Lovely too that something that was started over 800 years ago is still taking place. With such a busy weekend for the Royals it was great that they could turn up at your fair. :)

Now that's what I call a celebration! And yes, I see you munching!
ReplyDeleteI loved this post - so English, both old and new! I love the historic tradition of the old fairs still going on today. I spied both your lovely pink cottage and you enjoying something yummy...!

A very greedy moment! Glad you liked the article - I am always heartened that other people think the same way.

Just looks perfect. Love that you got caught daintily eating a wee morsel.
ReplyDeleteX
Love the last photo! There's one of me like that at our wedding, which I find really annoying...
ReplyDeleteThis is just a great event. We ahve to wait until the end of August/beginning of September for our town fair, but you've whetted my appetite!
What a fabulous looking fair... and two very happy looking little girls. I spotted you munching!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like such fun - with everyone clearly enjoying themselves. The weather was good too. x
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see that somewhere in England still actually celebrates May day, most people just think of it as a day off work . Gorgeous smiley face in the first pic .
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky to have a fair in your front yard! What fun! Loved your photos.. who's the little darling in the first picture? Thanks for sharing with us... Teresa in Oregon USA
ReplyDeleteThere is a small child over here who is now LIVID that those rides and attractions were not parked outside HIS house. This might just permanently mar his friendship with the young lady in the first photo. And I had such hopes of being a co-mother-in-law with you...
ReplyDelete(Papa S. and I are still chortling over your greedy moment. Do tell what the substance was.)
Prince William looks cute in a necklace..those royals are getting around everywhere these days! It's amazing to see a whole village/town sitting down to afternoon tea like that..great photos..I spied out you and your house..too funny, lol.
ReplyDeleteWhat a super may day celebration - the fair looks lovely and old-fashioned, I love those wooden swing boats. I see you - adpoting the time honored pose of lady eating something drippable while wanting to keep her pretty skirt clean!
ReplyDeleteI see you and that is too funny. I like your skirt. I love that in England even your fairs have such a history to them. So much cooler than setting up in a shopping mall parking lot.
ReplyDeleteOh those first two pictures are just lovely. And yes--I see you!
ReplyDeleteK xx
And a good time was had by all, clearly!
ReplyDeletePity it's turned chill again...
I'm sure it was something healthy you were eating! ;)

How fabulous and utterly English! What a wonderful weekend you must ahve had.
ReplyDeleteLynn is such a TART with her children's hand in marriage. She has promised that boy to at least two children now to my knowledge.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed that. I imagined you lived in a totally pink village...oh well.
ReplyDeleteIf you can't find your blogging voice you could do more of these 'spot the..'
I like a challenge.
Looks like it was REALLY delicious Emma, candid camera indeed!
ReplyDeleteI have nominated you for a blog award, pop over to Planet Penny to find out more. Just 'spreading the love'!
Lovely pics, it looks like a fantastic day! :) x
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I think my girl would have escaped out her window at night to have a whirl.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a gorgeous time!
Thank you for your sweet comments on my blog :)
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!' What fun .. I love these oh so British occasions.

ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous looking fair! It's one of the things that I really miss from my childhood when the village fete was the high point of the year! The little Pebbles look adorable! Lucy xx
ReplyDeleteOooh, just like where's wally... love it! Whatever it is you're stuffing it must have been good. I also spotted a demonic looking Harry, mwah ha ha ha!
