Roadside meadows




I've posted over at Sarah Raven's blog, Garlic and Sapphire today about a couple of places on the way to Dottycookie's house where I got out of the car and found a surprisingly wonderful diversity of wildflowers by the side of the road. Our verges are, in effect, roadside meadows and their careful management may help to replace some of our lost habitats.     Stunning these little patches of wild habitat are so important, especailly with the Bee's struggling like they are. That's one of the reason I've have planted a wildflower strip in the garden, plus wildflowers are so pretty. I'll pop over for a read.

    Such a lovely read Emma :) I love the pictures of the flowers and your defiantly right about the diversity going on in those verges...I hope the councils in the UK will consider taking good care of them as so much of the land is now industrialised, it is very worth looking after the remaining wildlife, Safxxx

    British bees are in trouble
    Disease, chemicals and disappearing green spaces have all contributed to their dramatic decline in recent years.

    I enjoyed your article over at Sarah Ravens - I am so afraid our wildflowers won't survive unless our local authorities allow unkempt areas to flourish, I found a seldom seen cornflower in the fields near here last year, the field, sadly, is now underneath a housing estate!

    Really enjoyed your post on G&S, I have always been facinated by these little pockets of floral activity you can spot whilst zooming past!
    I really hope attention can be brought to maintain them, I was pleased to spot one of my local churchyards has embraced the wildflowers that have been springing up, I would be very saddened to return and see mowed grass, but some say it looks 'unsightly'?! I will keep an eye out for any local roadside meadows, lets show people how important they should be to us all!
