Higgledy Garden giveaway - TWO complete cut flower seed collections for 2014

I mentioned Higgledy Garden and his cut flower seeds. I also mentioned a giveaway. Here it is.

I have an ENTIRE 2014 collection of Ben's cut flower seeds to send to two readers.

Each collection is worth £19.50 and has twenty cut flower seed varieties exclusively tested in the Higgledy garden with the help of Harry Twelvehats the orangey dog.

Have a peep at the mosaic above. This is just a small selection of the beautiful flowers you could grow next year. Oof.

Here is a lovely quote from a Higgledy customer (Tracy):

"I love Higgledy cut flower seeds - the selection is perfect for my cutting patch and their germination rate is fantastic. Ben's blog is my go-to resource for all things flowery."

The flowers you could grow are useful for:
  • Beautiful posies,
  • Jaunty hats (this one is made of borage)
  • Dreamy, floaty drifts of enviable garden loveliness.

Oh and it's not too late to sow hardy annuals from the cut flower seed collection now. As long as the soil is above 7 degrees C and frost free (which it certainly is in most parts of the country at the moment) then there's the opportunity for stronger larger plants next year through the power of the secret root ball.

Please leave a comment below to have a chance of winning. There's only one condition - pop over to Mr Higgledy's gaff and tell me which is your favourite cutting flower.

Also, do a tweet (I'm @silverpebble2) and there's an extra entry in it for you. Nice!

I'll keep the giveaway open until this Friday (4th October) and draw the winner on Saturday (5th).

(So sorry, EU only I'm afraid due to sending-seeds-further-afield rules)

All photographs are from Ben's website and are of flowers he grew from his own seeds.

Ooh Mrs P - am I the first?

What a lovely giveaway :) our garden looks like a tip after the building work but it's due for a huge revamp and the aim is to fill it with colour.

Sooo, my favourite?

It's a toss up between cornflowers and scabious - at a push I'd have to go for scabious!

What a lovely giveaway, thank you :) My favourite would have to be Centaurea Cynus. Cornflowers. ‘Blue Ball’ sooo pretty!

Thank you x

Oh my goodness! That's marvellous!!! Would be perfect for my newly cleared and fenced garden :)

I'd have to go for Nigella
http://higgledygarden.com/products-page/classic-cut-flower/nigella-love-in-the-mist-miss-jekyll-oxford-blue/

We found we had nigella in the garden when we bought our home, and just love it to pieces! The bottom of our garden was totally covered in brambles and nettles, but once my OH cleared it the nigella appeared the following spring. It was such a lovely surprise!

Echinops Ritro is my favourite. If I won I would plant some at home and some with my Year 1 class, who would find it magical!!

This is terribly unfashionable, but I love gypsophila. It is so pretty and delicate, and looks good in the garden, as an accompaniment to larger flowers in a big arrangement, and on its own in a tiny vase - perhaps with one little rosebud or freesia stem.
I often have to arrange flowers in church - and gyp is a wonderful help there, or take a small arrangement to the bedside of a sick person, and it is so sweet and delicate.
And its name means 'lover of chalk' - and reminds me of school and blackboards [I am a teacher!!]

would love to be in your giveaway xx

I'd go for the Blue Boy cornflowers - a traditional flower in a vibrant colour

Hello what a fabulous giveaway! :D

I think if I had to choose only one favourite cutting flower it would have to be the cheeky Eschscholzias. I just love the stunning tangerine colour.

I have everything crossed... it's very uncomfortable!

I am fairly certain that a borage hat could and would solve ALL of the world's problems. Truly.

Smashing Mr Higgers provides the best blooms! Snapdragon 'Puff the Magic' has the best name but that Phacelia Tanacetifolia is wonderful. Here's hoping we all have another great growing season like this year :-)

RHIANNON said...

I would love to have a flower area for cutting at the allotment. I'm not a big flower grower normally but I think nigella is a fav and a good photography suject

Rainbowrose said...

I love cosmos. It's just one of the best annuals to grow. Having never seen 'candy stripe' before I have to choose this. There will definitely besome of this growing in my tubs next summer.

Oww! What a great giveaway, I really like the 'didiscus 'lacy' on his website, his description did make me chuckle 'yes I am smitten...I'm done for...I may even start writing poetry', brilliant! And a beautiful flower. I really like his blog, very uplifting :) I also love forget-me-not flowers though, there probably my favourite flower. Unfortunatly don't own my own garden but if I win I'm going to give them to my mum as a birthday present :) safxxx

out of all of the ones i got as far as looking at on there, i have to say i love the Candytuft ‘Crown’!
I am determined for our garden when we move house to have a gorgeous cutting bed! we've kept everything to pots in this place as we have rubbish soil and want to take things with us when we move!

oh what a great gift! I already enjoyed the pictures!

my favourite: cosmos sensation.
I loved them before but at my bachelorette party (a wonderful open air cooking course with herbs & vegetables & flowers) I learned that they taste deliciously as well!

tweeting: sorry, I'm no twitter.... is this a must?

Cheers

oh so many gorgeous flowers, and we have to choose just one favourite, that's mean.... ok, it will have to be cosmos, as I love it's feathery foliage as well as the cheery flowers x

My favs are gomphrena as they look like strawberries. The cosmos have been amazing this year however

Muddling Along said...

My favourite are sweet peas - smell just so lovely

Fingers crossed - have decided that next year is the year to embrace growing cut flowers

Frances said...

Emma, those Higgledy Garden flowers are all really lovely, and it's difficult to pick a favorite. However, pressed to decide, I choose Centaurea Cyrus Cornflowers ... Blue Bells. Their classic beauty gets me every time I am lucky to spy them with my little eye.

(If I were to be lucky enough to win some of these seeds, I will send you an address of a UK friend whose garden would be very deserving.)

Best wishes. xo

I love the black ball cornflower - the colour is sensational. Thanks for the giveaway Emma.

For me, it's Cosmos "Sensation". Easy to grow, tolerant of any soil, flowers its socks off all summer until the first frosts, and such beautiful, graceful flowers - a jug full of cosmos needs nothing else.

Cosmos! Cosmos! Cosmos! I even managed to grow them this year FROM SEED!

SEED! COSMOS! DID YOU HEAR ME?

Christina said...

What a jaunty set-up this is!

I'd probably plump for borage, if pushed - reminds me of my mum and of borage flowers frozen in ice cubes in a summery drink. Love the furriness of the plants also.

@vestachowmein said...

Got to be cornflower Black Ball, or Nigella in a variety of colours reminiscent of my sock drawer.

Minako said...

I LOVE calendula.
I have been interested in medicinal use of herbs and the main feature of my garden had been nothing but herbs.
From this year, however, my passion has completely shifted to grow cutting flowers thanks to Higgledy Garden.
I'm hoping I can make my own calendula infused oil next year. Please let me have the prize!

Karen said...

This is a very nice giveaway and what a lovely choice on his website and not sure I can chose a favourite. I love borage, cornflowers, nigella and cosmos equally.

Locket Pocket said...

What a wonderful giveaway! I was going to say two favourite flowers - achillea and cornflowers but if I had to narrow it down I would go for cornflowers - the ones on Ben's blog look amazing, such a vibrant colour. xx

thesnailgarden said...

Wow, what an amazing website- thanks for the link. I love cutting flowers from my garden to decorate indoors with, so please enter my name into the draw. I'm struggling to choose my favourite flower, but I think I will go for a flower that I have grown since I was small and that is Nigella. I love the blue against the ferny leaves. Best wishes, Pj x

Sara Venn said...

My favourite Higgeldy flower is a Calendula- they make me instantly smile!! And I'd like to win these so that my Tiny Trowels group can sow a beautiful cutting garden for their community project next year:))

Alice Auperin said...

Mr H's flowers all look lovely. I'd have to choose cosmos, their feathery leaves set off the flowers so well.

@lp_lisa said...

Lovely idea Emma! I have recently made a resolution to ALWAYS comment on the blogs I read. Mr Higgledy is one of the people responsible for my ever decreasing lawn! Love Cosmos. So simple but so rewarding. Determined to have them in every colour next year.

Love Higgledy garden seeds, I grew some this year, had my best ever display

Blimey, it's been tough picking a favourite but I think I have decided ... it is ammi majus. I just adore it. It sets off everything else it sits with in a vase, and like you, I'm potty about umbellifers. I've sown double what I sowed last year so hoping for a bumper crop xx

Gyp is my favourite as much underrated and can be used not just as a frothy filler. For the sympathy vote I sowed a HG flower patch at the allotment but rather over enthusiastic OH hoed all the seedlings :-(
